Youth Power Rally and Party
August 14 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Empowering Student Activists to Organize and Vote
The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence Youth Committee has planned the Youth Power Rally to address the administrative response of schools who prevented student walk outs during the state-wide school walks in March.
Many students felt their rights to organize and speak out were not heard and they felt unsupported in their organizing efforts. Many of these students reached out to the ACLU for help, wondering if their rights to protest in school had been violated, and the RI ACLU found they may have been.
The Coalition’s response is this rally. A student led, student organized, and student planned event. We will gather on August 14th from 3-5PM on the RI State House lawn to unveil our youth/student power handbook-with information on how to form political clubs in public schools and a students rights to protest in schools and in other spaces.
Youth activists Taiwo Demola, Nika Lomazzo, and Angelina Williams will perform. Youth will receive safe protest and power trainings from the ACLU, hear from fellow youth organizers/activists, and enjoy a variety of free local foods/treats!
Join with YCAGV, Moms Demand Action – RI, and The Providence Student Union to help students organize and take action in the 2018 campaign season and beyond.
