The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence was formed in 2013 as a grassroots organization working to reduce gun violence in Rhode Island and to hold elected officials accountable for legislative solutions to help decrease this public health epidemic. Over the past nine years, we have increased our partner organizations to over 100 and grown into a staffed organization whose endorsements are sought after by legislators. Many significant pieces of gun legislation have been passed here in Rhode Island, including bills to remove firearms from domestic abusers, increase penalties for straw sales and purchases, create a process for removing firearms from dangerous individuals, ban the sale and possession of “ghost guns,” and keep guns out of our K-12 schools.

Our current part-time Executive Director, Linda Finn is retiring on October 1, 2021. Linda is a founding member of the Coalition and brought experience as a legislator, advocate, and parent to help the organization expand to where it is today. The job has become a full-time, year-round position and Linda has decided it is time to allow someone with new energy to take the helm. After nine years of activism, she is retiring to spend more time with her family, enjoy her garden and work on her tennis game. The RICAGV Board is grateful to Linda for her many years of service as both a board member and as Executive Director, and her tireless efforts to reduce gun violence in Rhode Island.

We are excited to announce that we will be expanding further. Prospective candidates can apply here: ricagv.org/executive-director
